What is Board Certification?

When a medical doctor is board certified, it means that he or she has completed years of schooling, fulfilled residency requirements, and passed the tests required by the state in which a doctor intends to practice. Even after completing that lengthy effort, a doctor has chosen to undergo the voluntary process of certification, where he or she has been judged by a group of certified physicians in a particular specialty of medicine and has been deemed worthy of certification by a specialty board.

What is a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant?

Carolina Eye requires all patient care assistants to become certified ophthalmic assistants within 18 months of employment. What this means to our patients is that these technicians receive highly specialized training that certifies them to assist in caring for patients with eye disease or injury. These certified assistants and medical technicians initiate exams, measure and record visual status, perform diagnostic tests, and assist in our clinical and surgical settings.
